Sustainability
Because La Ionica chicken is processed using the European Air-Chilling method, it is more sustainable in two keys ways. First, it saves water. And second, because our chickens are processed using the air chilled method there is no water to absorb during the process, it doesn’t need soaker pads – a big benefit. The La Ionica Sustainability and Technical team are also constantly working to make our operations more sustainable, finding new ways to reduce waste and energy use, and minimising the amount of waste used as landfill.

Food Safety and Quality are core values of the La Ionica brand and are at the forefront of everything we do to ensure we exceed expectations. Imbedding a Food Safety Culture into every aspect of our business is critical to our people and especially our customers, and our whole team works collaboratively to meet our goal to always produce safe, high quality food

Animal Welfare
The health and welfare of our poultry is a responsibility we take very seriously and we are committed to ensuring we are always at the forefront of industry best practice.
- We maintain the highest standards of animal health and welfare at every stage of production, including hatchery, breeder rearing, breeder laying, growing, pick-up, transport and processing.
- We have implemented the OSI Global Animal Welfare Standard that incorporates all legislative requirements.
- We ensure our high standards are maintained by incorporating our animal welfare practices into our quality systems, including our staff performance measurements.
RSPCA Approved
From humble beginnings: La Ionica and RSPCA Approved
La Ionica places great importance on ensuring our meat chickens are raised to better standards of animal welfare, from growing through to transport and processing – and this is now easily communicated to our customers by the RSPCA Approved logo on our packaging.
When you see the RSPCA Approved logo on La Ionica products, this means the farms have met the RSPCA detailed animal welfare standards – standards which are all checked through RSPCA robust and stringent assessment and certification process. All of this drive’s meaningful improvements to meat chicken welfare now and into the future.

While the RSPCA Approved meat chicken Standard goes above and beyond what’s legally required here in Australia, the aim is also to set farms on a path of continuous improvement.
